She finally landed on occupational therapy after an injury in the Coast guard, and today specializes in working with people with chronic pain and mental health issues. She works in acute care, and also has her own private practice and was recently featured by the Canadian occupational therapy professional development committee for her work on grief and chronic pain and illness management. When she isn't studying pain neuroscience, she can be found with her dogs Inga and Tucker and husband Jared, probably somewhere in the mountains.  ﻿

Faces of Grief - Book Launch

Kristy was a music educator for 10 years until 2014 when she learned that she was losing her hearing due to progressive sensorineural hearing loss. She was absolutely devastated as she thought this meant she would lose her music and ability to enjoy the performing arts forever. She was scared of what it meant to lose her hearing and become part of the d/Deaf community. She spiraled into a massive depression that landed her and her children in a shelter. She went back to school and obtained a degree in Deaf Studies/American Sign Language. Her amazing professors allowed her to bring Hailey to class to learn ASL right alongside her so she would not lose communication with her children. Hailey then encouraged her mom to co-create a theater where everyone signs so she does not lose her love of the performing arts forever. Right then and there Hands Up Silent Theatre was created.

Alexa Bigwarfe is a wife, mother, advocate, blogger, author, and publisher whose writing career began after the loss of her infant daughter. She has authored and published multiple books, including Sunshine After the Storm: A Survival Guide for the Grieving Mother and Ditch the Fear and Just Write It! Through her company, Write|Publish|Sell, she coaches authors through publishing and marketing. Alexa also runs Kat Biggie Press, Purple Butterfly Press, and Chrysalis Press, each dedicated to amplifying women’s and children’s voices.

Alexa hosts the annual Women in Publishing Summit, providing resources for women in all stages of writing, publishing, and marketing. Jason Hillman was appointed Vice President of Basketball Operations/Team Counsel in February 2022, after serving five years as Basketball Chief of Staff/Team Counsel. Before joining the basketball operations team in 2017, Hillman spent 12 years with the Cavaliers in various business roles, most recently as Senior Vice President/General Counsel. He manages player and staff contracts, oversees basketball operations, handles player immigration matters, and ensures NBA compliance. Hillman also aids in managing salary cap, trades, draft, and free agency strategies, and was an Alternate Governor on the NBA Board of Governors from 2019-2022.

From 2005-2017, Hillman oversaw the team’s legal business matters, including sponsorships, ticketing, lease compliance, local government relations, and the 2016 Republican National Convention. Cathleen started on this journey in 2010 when her son, Logan, took his life.  This experience started a journey of exploration of her own beliefs, programs, and emotions.
