Advent Writing Contest 2023: Celebration of Winners and Finalists

We celebrate our Catholic tradition and the arts that spring from that dynamic seed. We offer all people of good will the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow with like-minded writers, students, and appreciators of written words that honor the Trinitarian God.In our mission, we sponsor theCatholic Poetry Society of Houston, theFearless Catholic Writing Camp, and Fearless Catholic After-School Programs.We also host monthly meetings of writers, publishers, and editors associated with the Catholic arts scene. We host mini-retreats combining spiritual reflection and the arts. We invite you to join us! All of our events retain a deep awareness of the spiritual patrimony and treasures of the Church.

Join CLA members and friends to celebrate the 2023 Advent Contest winners and finalists. This year’s contest asked writers to compose Advent prayers. Separate categories for poetry and prose encouraged their creative efforts to ask for the Virgin Mary’s intercession during the season of Advent.This year’s judge is Rev. John Bullock, LC.Fr. John Bullock, LC, is a priest with the Legionaries of Christ and was ordained in 2002. He has lived and worked in California, Cincinnati, and is currently living in Houston, Texas, his hometown. He has worked with youth, in college campus ministry, and as a chaplain to the Regnum Christi Movement. He also works with the Catholic business ministry Lumen.He has authored A Heart Like Jesus: A Regnum Christi Essay on Contemplating and Imitating Jesus, and A Cyclist’s Spirituality.
