Creative Renewal for the Winter Solstice with Joy Cosculluela

Founded in 1978 by dance and expressive arts therapy pioneers Anna Halprin and Daria Halprin, Tamalpa Institute is internationally recognized for its unique approach to movement, dance, and expressive arts therapy and education. We offer classes and programs throughout the year for people who wish to incorporate the embodied creativity of the arts into their personal lives and professional practices.

Tamalpa Institute Offerings

Founded by Anna and Daria Halprin, the Tamalpa Institute offers classes and programs throughout the year for people who wish to incorporate the embodied creativity of the arts into their personal lives and professional practices.

4 Mondays, November 27 - December 18 | 10 - 11:30 am PT | $70 for the seriesTamalpa does not record nor permit the recording of any classes or workshops due to the sensitive and sometimes vulnerable nature of the work, and to protect student privacy.

The Winter Solstice marks the transition between seasons, inviting us to turn inward and make space for renewal in our lives. 

In this end-of-the-year movement workshop, we sense and shift with the changing rhythms of the earth and invite our bodies to slow down. We honor the darkness and celebrate the returning light.

Using a multi-modality approach from the Life-Art Process, we weave movement, drawing, and writing to give voice to our journeys. We work with Anna Halprin’s Movement Ritual &amp; Dance Explorations, a somatic dance practice to help release stress, heighten kinesthetic awareness, and spark creative expression. 

We invite this question: If your body could speak, what will you let go, what will you take in? 

Participants draw, write, and create altar offerings to honor the darkness and call forth the sunlight. We come together and share solstice reflections as the year ends and a new one begins.

Open to all! Please have a comfortable space to move and have drawing and writing materials on hand.

Joy Cosculluela (she/her) resides in the ancestral lands of the Ohlone people, otherwise known as SF Bay Area. Joy is a performing artist, somatic educator, and artistic director of Wayﬁnding Performance Group, a multicultural ensemble of artists in SF. She was associate teacher and dancer with Anna Halprin and The Sea Ranch Collective. Joy has collaborated with numerous Bay Area artists and has worked as guest teacher at SF State, University of Washington, Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants, Nature Talks, and Body-Mind Centering Association. She holds an MFA Interdisciplinary Arts from God-dard College, is artistic director of Performance Lab SF and is core faculty at Tamalpa Institute in Kent-field, CA.R﻿EGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registration will close 1 hour prior to the start time of the first class. REFUNDS: will only be given if cancellation is received at least 48 hours before the start of the first class. Eventbrite's registration and processing fees are non-refundable.  No partial refunds or transfers available.
