In them we find the timeless connections between ecology, culture, and spirituality.

SHIFTING LANDSCAPES: An Immersive Exhibition

During both weekends of the Shifting Landscapes Immersive Exhibition, we will be hosting a series of special events, including film screenings and conversations with the exhibition’s artists and Emergence contributors.

Nightingales, who have coexisted with humans for millennia and been a consistent wellspring of intrigue and creative inspiration, are losing breeding habitat in England and may disappear from the country within our lifetimes. In this film, folk singer Sam Lee draws on an ancient lineage of oral storytelling as he joins this elusive bird in mutual song.Adam Loften is a filmmaker who produces documentaries, virtual reality experiences, and multimedia stories that highlight pressing social and environmental issues. His work has been featured on PBS, National Geographic, Emergence Magazine, The Atlantic, The Guardian, and The New York Times.Emmanuel Vaughan-Lee is an Emmy- and Peabody-nominated filmmaker, Naqshbandi Sufi teacher, and founder and executive editor of Emergence Magazine. His award-winning films have been featured on PBS, National Geographic, and The New York Times OpDocs, and exhibited at the Smithsonian.Sam Lee is a Mercury Prize–nominated folk singer, writer, conservationist, song collector, and activist who has released three critically acclaimed albums: Ground of Its Own, The Fade In Time, and Old Wow. His debut novel is The Nightingale: Notes on a Songbird.This screening is part of the special weekend event series held within Emergence Magazine’s SHIFTING LANDSCAPES immersive exhibition. No additional ticket is required.The exhibition, open for a limited ten-day run 1-10 December 2023, features works by nine international artists that open our imaginations to our entanglement with the biosphere. Bearing witness to the Earth’s rapid transformations, this exhibition invites you to see, touch, hear, and breathe—to feel into and participate in—the spaces of connection and kinship held within. As these works draw us out of our human exceptionalism towards kinship with the living world, might we remember ourselves as an extension of the changing Earth? What seeds of reciprocity, of abundant mutual care, might take root?Tickets are not required for entry, but priority will be given to ticket holders.
