As we experience the desecration of our lands and waters, the extinguishing of species, and a loss of sacred connection to the Earth, we look to emerging stories. In them we find the timeless connections between ecology, culture, and spirituality.

SHIFTING LANDSCAPES: An Immersive Exhibition

During both weekends of the Shifting Landscapes Immersive Exhibition, we will be hosting a series of special events, including film screenings and conversations with the exhibition’s artists and Emergence contributors.

An afternoon of conversation with filmmaker Kalyanee Mam, Climate in Colour founder Joycelyn Longdon, and folk singer Sam Lee, that will consider how we might rekindle awe and reciprocity by remembering ourselves as extensions of the changing Earth.Kalyanee Mam is an award-winning Cambodian-born filmmaker. Her debut documentary feature, A River Changes Course, won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and the Golden Gate Award for Best Feature Documentary.Sam Lee is a Mercury Prize–nominated folk singer, writer, conservationist, song collector, and activist who has released three critically acclaimed albums: Ground of Its Own, The Fade In Time, and Old Wow. His debut novel is The Nightingale: Notes on a Songbird.Joycelyn Longdon is an environmental justice activist and PhD student in Artificial Intelligence for Environmental Risk. She is also the founder of Climate In Colour, an online education platform and community dedicated to making climate science and environmental issues more accessible and diverse.This conversation is part of the special weekend event series held within Emergence Magazine’s SHIFTING LANDSCAPES immersive exhibition. Bearing witness to the Earth’s rapid transformations, this exhibition invites you to see, touch, hear, and breathe—to feel into and participate in—the spaces of connection and kinship held here. As these works draw us out of our human exceptionalism towards kinship with the living world, might we remember ourselves as an extension of the changing Earth? What seeds of reciprocity, of abundant mutual care, might take root?Tickets are not required for entry, but priority will be given to ticket holders.
