From Erykah Badu to Dr. Umar Johnson, to Beyonce’s nod to Yoruba gods, the wide-ranging beliefs, practices, of New Age and African spirituality have become mainstream. For many seeking to reconnect with their African roots, find relief from church trauma, or just a community that can support them, the conscious community is more trusted than the church.
But what does it mean to be conscious? Spiritual? Are these beliefs and practices compatible or in conflict with Christian teachings that many people grew up with?
Is Christ just a counterfeit copy of Kemeticism?
Join us at Soul Cafe — a night of live music, poetry and discussion. Together, we'll dive into these questions, seek gospel-centered answers, and foster a better understanding within the church to respond to increasingly popular notions of spirituality.
