Coastal Continuing Education was founded in 2019 by Hillcrest Psychological Associates and Positive Change Counseling Center. We are two group practices offering outpatient mental health in the greater San Diego area. Coastal Continuing Education is approved by the California Psychological Association to provide continuing professional education for Psychologists. Coastal Continuing Education maintains responsibility for our programs and its content. The BBS recognizes CPA CE credit for MFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, LEPs.

Coastal Continuing Education invites you to attend this interactive and educational 3-hour workshop with Anna Redmond, Psy.D. on Chronic Pain Education and Intervention. This training is for all clinicians and treatment providers seeking to gain a better understanding of evolving theories and current research in pain management and how to initiate chronic pain education.Course Description:Given the prevalence of chronic pain and the negative consequences associated with it, it is imperative to empower mental health clinicians to develop knowledge and skills around this topic. Mental health clinicians are in unique positions to help their clients understand and effectively self-manage their chronic pain and the purpose of this course is to improve clinician confidence in working with this population. This course will provide important information regarding the global effects and health disparities of pain and foundational education around evolving theories and current research in pain management. The course will then review unique and critical components to building rapport and initiating chronic pain education and offer education around basic psychological approaches to reduce a negative pain cycle.Learning Objectives:This workshop is designed to help you:1. Analyze foundational pain theories that shaped the biopsychosocial model of pain and differentiated it from the biomedical model.2. Identify health disparities that currently exist in the management of chronic pain3. Explain the role of the central nervous system and biopsychosocial factors in the development and maintenance of chronic pain.4. Dr. Anna Redmond, Psy.D. earned her doctorate in Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago. She is a clinical psychologist with a specialty in chronic pain management and is board certified in biofeedback through the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance. Dr. Redmond's clinical work has spanned many settings, including private practice, hospitals, VA medical centers, outpatient pain management clinics, in primary, secondary, and tertiary care settings. She has provided education in multiple formats, including local and national trainings, podcast interviews, webinars, and digital courses. Her most recent clinical role was serving as the clinical director of the Interdisciplinary Pain Rehabilitation Program, a pain psychologist in primary care, and coordinator of pain psychology services at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center.
