Whether you’re new to the scifi/fantasy genre or we’re reading your old favorites, you belong in this group. There are no gatekeepers here: just awesome humans who love a good story.

For our Friday, July 19 gathering from 7-8 pm, we’ll be discussing The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi, a historical high seas fantasy adventure by Shannon Chakraborty.

About the book //

Amina al-Sirafi should be content. After a storied and scandalous career as one of the Indian Ocean’s most notorious pirates, she’s survived backstabbing rogues, vengeful merchant princes, several husbands, and one actual demon to retire peacefully with her family to a life of piety, motherhood, and absolutely nothing that hints of the supernatural.

But when she’s tracked down by the obscenely wealthy mother of a former crewman, she’s offered a job no bandit could refuse: retrieve her comrade’s kidnapped daughter for a kingly sum. So... what's this book club like? //

Scifi / Fantasy readers have been gathering bi-monthly for over a year now and it's been a blast! Some people finish the read, others dip in for as long as they have capacity for. All are welcome, valued, and celebrated.

The group draws a crowd of about 15-20 people; enough to keep the perspectives diverse and fresh, but not too many that all voices aren't heard.

We have a number of folks who've returned to us--and a number who are new. We discuss prepared prompts but we also go with the conversational flow. After a good discussion, the group votes on the next session's read. Feel free to pitch a paperback you've enjoyed recently and would like to share with the group.

While we don't serve refreshments at the chat, Booksweet is located in The Courtyard Shops, filled with AMAZING dining options. Drinks are totally welcome at the meet-up; don't feel shy about sipping boba while we chat!
