While African Americans have celebrated Juneteenth for over 150 years. Rhode Island has been observing Juneteenth since 2012, but it did not become an official Rhode Island state holiday until 2024.Join the Rhode Island Black Film Festival as we celebrate Juneteenth with a screening of the film “PRICE OF ADMISSION:BLACK BASEBALL IN RHODE ISLAND”  from Elmcrest Film Director Francis J.  Leazes, Jr.  Narrated by Rhode Island Black StoryTellers’ Valerie Tutson “The Price of Admission” tells a story about baseball, power, money and the black community from the early 1900’s through The Jazz Age and the Great Depression of the 1930’s. It is an epic tale about two nearly forgotten men, Arthur James “Daddy” Black and Daniel “Big Dan” Whitehead, who made sports history in Rhode Island and broke barriers while doing so.Price of Admission is a 2024  Rhode Island Black Film Festival’s official selection. Thanks to our sponsors this screning is offerered free.

<p>                                                                             THE SCREENING IS FREE. </p><p>The road to the 2024 Rhode Island Black Film Festival stops at the Providence Public Library with SILVER SCREENS.. INVISIBLE BEAUTY: the story of Fashion revolutionary Bethann Hardison looks back on her journey as a pioneering Black model, modeling agent, and activist, shining a light on an untold chapter in the fight for racial diversity. She changed the way fashion looks.</p><p>Following the screening we will have a discucssion with Yemi Sekoni,  Business Women, Former Fashion Model and  Executive Director of  Fashion Week Rhode Island. </p><p>For more information email ann@ribff.org</p>

<h3>ABOUT THE SPEAKER- YEMI SEKONI</h3><h3>Yemi Sekoni is a dynamic leader in the fashion and entertainment industry, known for her outstanding work as a talent booking agent, show producer, and business mentor. With over 45 years of experience, Yemi has made a name for herself as a talented and driven individual who has a deep understanding of the industry.</h3><h3>​Yemi holds an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, where she developed her business acumen and honed her leadership skills. She is the director of Donahue Models &amp; Talent, a leading modeling agency that represents some of the most talented models and actors in the industry.</h3><h3> In addition to her work at Donahue Models &amp; Talent, Yemi is also the founder and executive producer of Rhode Island Fashion Week, a bi-annual event that showcases some of the most innovative and cutting-edge fashion designs from around New England. She is dedicated to promoting, and supporting the fashion industry in Rhode Island and beyond, and has been instrumental in not only creating a platform for emerging designers to showcase their work, but also mentoring them through the Small Business Administration’s SCORE.</h3><h3> </h3><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p><p></p>
