Come as You Are: Sublime Movement Workshop with Stanley Glover of BalletX

Founded in 1977, The Fabric Workshop and Museum both makes and presents, encouraging artists to experiment with new materials and new media in a veritable living laboratory. Through its renowned Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program, FWM collaborates with artists to expand their practices, while documenting the course of artistic production from inspiration to realization. Today, FWM is the only US institution devoted to creating work in textile and new media in collaboration with some of the most significant artists of our time. Presenting large scale exhibitions, installations, and performative works, FWM seeks to bring this spirit of artistic investigation and discovery to the wider public. In addition to complete works of art, FWM’s permanent collection also includes material research, samples, and prototypes. Serving as an educational center for Philadelphia’s youth from the outset, FWM remains dedicated to developing programs and opportunities for local students and emerging artists, advancing the role of art as catalyst for innovation and social connection.

Have you ever drawn a line with your whole body? Thought of your own curves as part of a sublime object in space? Jacolby Satterwhite’s work incorporates aspects of dance, drawing, and movement and animated figures to create complex and personal spaces in both digital and physical forms. FWM and BalletX invite all experience levels to join us for this special introduction to the foundations of Vogue as a dance art form. Learn the five elements of vogue—cat walk, duck walk, hands, floor performance, and spins—as well as an introduction to the history of ball culture and performance. Connect your own history and motivations to the fun and fierce elements of Vogue. About Stanley GloverStanley Glover is a former contestant and fan favorite on season eleven of the competitive television show &quot;So You Think You Can Dance.&quot; Born and raised on the south side of Chicago, Stanley began his dance training at Premiere One Dance Academy under the direction of Adrienne Brazile. He has performed and trained under many influential choreographers and companies, including Sonya Tayeh, Sidra Bell, Robert Battle, Pennsylvania Ballet, and many more. He has also performed as a principal dancer in Cirque de Soleil’s production of Mystère. General admission 10$. Current students may attend this event for free. Registration is required and students will be asked to present valid student ID upon entry.
