The Maine Teacher of the Year program started in 1954 when Elizabeth Ray was named the first Maine Teacher of the Year.  When Educate Maine started administering the program in 2013, we expanded it to include County Teachers of the Year, one of whom is selected as State Teacher of the Year.  The first cohort of CTOYs was named in May 2014, and we continue to engage with and learn from this growing network of talented educators from all corners of our state.  The Teacher of the Year Gala has become an annual beacon, illuminating the dedication and tireless efforts of Maine's County and State Teachers of the Year and celebrating educators from every corner of Maine who enrich our lives and those of our students and school communities.At the Gala, we will honor the 2023 County Teachers of the Year and reunite the previous cohorts to honor their work over the years.  Matt Bernstein, 2023 Maine Teacher of the Year, from Casco Bay High School in Portland, will emcee the evening. We will introduce the 2024 Maine Teacher of the Year and hear inspiring stories from past and current honorees, as well as business and policy leaders who are passionate about education. The 10-Year Gala Celebration is a unique opportunity for businesses, community organizations, local leaders, school districts, and all those who hold our teachers in high regard to come together. Join us at this event to honor and celebrate Maine's exceptional educators, whose impact is immeasurable!
