7/18 Riso Basics Workshop

We’ll be getting familiar with the risograph and what it can do for our creation!

What is riso? A risograph is like a copy machine with a screenprint process. It’s similar to a copy machine in the way that it can scan images and produce prints at a high volume very quickly. But inside the riso, there are ink drums that push ink through a thin paper stencil to print each layer.

Risographs were initially created to support the high volume output of schools, churches, and business. But in recent times many artists and designers have used it for their art. Risograph printing adds a deeply textured and vibrant result to art prints, flyers, and zines.

Over the course of this workshop we will learn what risograph printing is along with exploring analog techniques that make this medium unique. Lab time will be included for print preparation and to test print your own drawings and designs. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to take home up to 20 two-color 8.5"x11" prints.

Upcoming intermediate & digital file prep workshops will be coming soon to further explain how to utilize digital tools for printing.

In addition to the in-person course, you will have digital access to the class presentation and a list of references to navigate riso setup on your own after the workshop.

Class will be conducted in-person at Sohn Vintage in the Arts District.
