Sacred Heart Music Center offers an eclectic mix of live music performances in a dramatic, historic setting. It has become a unique venue in downtown Duluth for regional, national and international artists, and gives the audience a musical experience that’s both intimate and awe-inspiring.Sacred Heart has a rich history. The building, which was built in 1896, was once the Sacred Heart Cathedral. In 1985, the Catholic Diocese in Duluth announced that Sacred Heart’s congregation would merge with St. Mary Star of the Sea. That’s when a community group formed to rescue the beautiful historic space from the wrecking ball and preserve it for generations to come.Today, a non-profit organization continues to fulfill that mission. Sacred Heart has become a showcase for music in Duluth’s Central Hillside neighborhood. It’s home to a recording studio and the historic Felgemaker organ. And new efforts are underway to instill a love of music into area children with youth outreach programs.Along with musical performances, Sacred Heart has hosted a variety of other public and private events – even a yoga conference! From weddings and receptions, to parties and meetings, Sacred Heart is available to rent for many special events.Sacred Heart is a testament to the magic of music, the local arts scene, and preserving historic treasures. Minnesota troubadour Mason Jennings celebrates the release of his new album "Underneath the Roses."

Minnesota troubadour <a href="https://masonjennings.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">M ason Jennings</a> celebrates the release of his 16th studio album Underneath the Roses with an altar stage performance at 8pm on Saturday Nov. 25 at Sacred Heart Music Center.Jennings writes that the songs from Underneath The Roses were written in a burst following the birth of his son, Western, in March 2022.“I hadn’t written any songs in about a year. I had been dealing with the psychological after effects of the pandemic as well as the loss of my dad. So, when Western was born I didn’t expect to be writing much. But immediately he was responding to music in a very intense way."Between May and November 2022, Jennings wrote 48 songs!"They certainly uplifted me and connected me with the creative spirit, and spirit in general, again. They cover all kinds of ground but, when I listen back, I think the central theme is overcoming fear with love,” he said.Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam) and Regan Hagar (Brad) from Loosegroove Records helped edit the track list down to 11 and put the songs to tape."I called it Underneath The Roses because I feel like these songs are musical roses and when I look below them there are many thorns and so much dirt and soil. All of it was needed for them to come into existence and bloom," said Mason.Minnesota-based singer-songwriter <a href="https://www.mollydean.net/home--2" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Molly Dean</a> will open.Advance E-T ickets will be available for $20 beginning at 10am Friday, Sept. 15 on Eventbrite.com. Tickets will be available at the door for $25 while they last. Doors at 7. Music at 8.
