We are looking for people to become trained as Community Reporters to help support our learning about the Vision for Volunteering.

Birmingham Friends of the Earth

Join us for a one-day training session that will introduce you to the methodology of Community Reporting, get you trained up and ready to go out gathering and working with stories of lived experience. This session will focus on how we can use Community Reporting to understand more about the experiences of people who volunteer or work with volunteers. We will use Community Reporting as a tool to help us find out more about the needs, challenges and opportunities within the volunteering ecosystem so that we can support them. It will also help us understand how people are responding to and using the Vision for Volunteering. You’ll get: <ul><li>one day Community Reporter training that will improve your communication skills, digital media skills and research skills </li><li>trained in a new learning and research methodology that you can implement in your own context</li><li>the chance to contribute to and influence the implementation of the Vision for Volunteering </li></ul>In return, we ask that participants commit to both the one-day training and one further sense-making session (2hrs, online). We also ask that you collect 3 stories about volunteering to contribute to the project. This could be from your peers, the people that you work or volunteer with, or people in your community. What is Community Reporting? Community Reporting is a storytelling movement that was started in 2007 by People’s Voice Media, and it uses digital tools to support people to tell their own stories in their own ways. Central to Community Reporting is the belief that people telling authentic stories about their own lived experience offers a valuable understanding of their lives. Through creating spaces in which people can describe their own realities, Community Reporting provides opportunities in which people can use storytelling to: <ol><li>Find their voice</li><li>Challenge perceptions</li><li>Be catalysts of change </li></ol>We believe in achieving positive change for communities by bringing peoples’ portrayals of lived experiences together to influence change from the ground up via Community Reporting methodologies. Community Reporting has three distinct components – story gathering, story curation and story mobilisation – based around the Cynefin decision-making framework for complex environments (David Snowden, 1999). Through gathering, curating and mobilising stories from our growing network of Community Reporters, we seek to inform policy, processes and practice. We have partnered with the Vision for Volunteering to support their learning and evaluation as they seek to implement the Vision’s plan for the future of volunteering.V﻿enue Details<ul><li>Free Wi-Fi available throughout the building.

</li><li>Accessible toilets on both ground and first floor</li></ul>G﻿etting to the VenueThe building is in an ideal location, close to Birmingham City Centre and can easily be reached by public transport. Birmingham New Street Station is approximately a 10 minute walk and Birmingham Moor Street Station is only a few minutes away. Cycle parking is available outside the building.
The Warehouse does not have a car park, but there are pay &amp; display car parks and street parking close by.From New St Station, follow signs to Moor St station. When you get to Moor St, go down the hill to the side of the station towards the multi-storey car park. At the car park, go left under the railway bridge. Immediately after the railway bridge turn right onto Shaws Passage, which is quite short. The building is on the corner at the end of Shaws Passage - walk round the corner onto Allison Street and along past the Cafe to the full glass door with the Birmingham Friends of the Earth hanging sign - through this door and up the stairs/lift. If locked, please use the intercom to call us at reception (553 and then the Bell symbol).
