Girl Scouts [Brownie] Stream Bugs of the Chemung River - Earn the Bug Badge

Chemung River Friends is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Elmira, NY. Our mission is to protect and promote and preserve the 45-mile-long Chemung River, its tributaries (the Canisteo, Cohocton, Cowanesque, and Tioga Rivers), and watershed through education and providing resources that allow our community to better use, enjoy, and respect our natural resources. We provide guided tours, hikes, and cleanups as we work to make our rivers easier, safer, and more fun to use and enjoy. We build boat launches and add and improve river trails. We also provide riverside education and safe boating programs for all ages.

Pirozzolo Park

Calling all Brownies! Please join us on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 1pm – 3pm at Pirozzolo Park in Elmira, to learn about all the cool bugs that live in the Chemung River. These bugs, called macroinvertebrates, are not only cool to look at, they also can tell us a lot about our water quality!The activity will take place at Pirozzolo Park in Elmira, NY. We will meet at the picnic pavilion next to the playground to do some bug crafts and education, then we will head down to the boat launch to catch some stream bugs! If the temperature is less than 50F or there is rain, we will meet at the Friends of the Chemung River headquarters, the Midtown Mall, 111 N. Main Street, Suite 8, Elmira, NY to complete the activities.The cost per girl is $7 and will include the Bug Badge. Registration is limited to 20 scouts. Girl Scout Leaders and Co-Leaders are free.
