<h2>Boricua Lens: Sophie Rivera Portraits </h2>This inaugural exhibition from the Nueva Luz Study Center and Archives celebrates Puerto Rican street photographer Sophie Rivera, whose work was on the cover of the first issue of Nueva Luz. The Nueva Luz Study Center (NLSC) and Archives will be organizing future exhibits of artists who have been presented in Nueva Luz issues, as part of our efforts to secure the legacies of artists of color. This exhibition opens on October 13, 2023, at Pregones Theater and online. ﻿Sophie Rivera was born in 1938 in the Bronx, New York. For many decades Rivera photographed the life of New York&#x27;s Latino, specifically Puerto Rican, working-class communities. She is best known for her untitled series from 1978 depicting Nuyorican (Puerto Ricans from New York) sitters in mid-perspective black-and-white photographs.Exhibition On View: October 13, 2023 - April 04, 2024.
