Svetlana and the Story Behind her new album, Night at the Movies,An Informal Conversation With Judy PritchettHave you ever wondered how a young girl from Soviet Russia who came to the USA for graduate studies ended up becoming a popular singer of swing and blues, such quintessentially American music? Judy Pritchett of the Frankie Manning Foundation has always wanted to know Svetlana’s story. Recently she asked Svetlana if she would give a talk to a small group of fans and friends. By coincidence she was in the process of releasing her new record Svetlana Night at the Movies, which practically provides a soundtrack to her life story. It seems that her early love of American movies, and the dreams that they kindled in her are an important ingredient of her migration story.To learn more about Svetlana’s journey from behind the Iron Curtain to a much more glamorous curtain, join us for an informal get-together on Monday, Sept. 23, when Svetlana will share some video including a recently released Voice of America segment about her journey, some music, maybe some Russian sweets and answer our questions about her fascinating life.This event is free but space is very limited so registration is required for attendance - the venue is a private space closed to public, only those who registered will receive instructions for finding the space . Signed copies of the new record will be available for sale at the event. After event completion guests are invited to Svetlana's and her band concert at the Back Room. There is no cover for that musical performance.
