The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience.  We are an all-ages listening room. We exist to present great music and promote jazz as an art form.The Sound Room is the home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts, a  501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on promoting the Arts.

StorySlam Oakland creator Julie Soller will be hosting with comedian Inanç Karacaylak.StorySlam Oakland is Oakland&#x27;s longest-running true storytelling show, where people listen and tell short and true stories from their lives. Or just listen and laugh. The theme changes every month. This month&#x27;s storytelling theme is: delight.HOW THE SHOW WORKS:Come hear true stories told by ordinary people, plus two special featured storytellers:Longtime StorySlam Oakland favorite, Mosa Maxwell SmithNew to StorySlam Oakland, Patrick Ford who runs the Alameda Comedy ClubAnybody can put their name in the hat for a chance to tell their true, personal story on the theme. See rules below.Storytellers will be mostly picked at random from the names in the hat. We usually have time for 8 to 10 open-mic storytellers. There is food and drink available from the Sound Room cafe. The venue is wheelchair accessible. Our featured storytellers this month are: Patrick Ford (Alameda Comedy Club) and Mosa Maxwell-Smith (Bawdy Storytelling, StorySlam Oakland, the Moth)StorySlam Oakland&#x27;s rules for storytellingStories must be about YOUStories must be TRUE (believe me, we can tell if they&#x27;re not)Length should be about 5 minutes or less. We&#x27;ll have a volunteer timer to keep you to the time limit.Stories must be told aloud, not read and NO notes! Tell it just like you&#x27;re telling friends around a dinner table.No pressure! Just have fun. There is no voting and no judging.MORE DETAILS:The Sound Room is great for date night. The roomy interior space has uncrowded tables and chairs for dining and watching, great lighting, and a friendly low stage. The venue is wheelchair accessible.There is a menu of snacks, dinners, desserts, good wines, craft beers, and great non-alcoholic drinks, too. Suggested minimum is $10 per person to support the Sound Room.Doors open early, at 6:30 so you can pick your seats and order some food and drink. There will be one intermission.StorySlam is suitable for adults and older teens, and as we can&#x27;t control the content of the stories, is not recommended for young children.StorySlam Oakland is Oakland’s longest-running independent true storytelling show, started in 2013.
