Frequently asked questions

Is this production appropriate for children?

The performances may include some staged violence, innuendo, and mature themes. We encourage parents/guardians of children under 13 to read a synopsis of the play online to see if the play will be appropriate for their children.

Should I print out my Eventbrite ticket?

No, you don't have to print out your ticket! If you bought your ticket online, we'll have a record of your name.

How do I get to Winedale?

Winedale is located approximately halfway between Austin and Houston. Winedale Historical Center is just down the road from Round Top, a town full of artists, antique shops, and bed & breakfast inns.

Where do I park?

There is a meadow next to the theater barn where audience members should park. The entrance to the meadow will be clearly marked with orange signs reading 'Event Parking.' ADA-accessible parking is also available.

Can I bring a picnic?

Absolutely! We're happy to welcome you to bring food and drinks to the property and into the barn. There are shaded picnic tables available for your use next to the barn. Please make sure you clean up any mess and unwrap anything noisy before the performance begins.

Does Shakespeare at Winedale sell refreshments?

Unfortunately, we don't sell food or beverages. However, you're more than welcome to bring your own! We provide free water and lemonade at intermission.

What about the heat?

The theater barn is open to the outside, and we all know a little something about Texas heat! We have air conditioning and giant fans going during the performances which keep the audience pretty cool, but you are welcome to bring your own personal fan (as long as it does not make much noise).

Should I bring my own chair?

No, chairs are provided for the audience, and each chair has a cushion. Some people find it beneficial to bring an additional pillow to sit on.

How do seating reservations work?

The barn will open for seating 1 hour prior to each performance. In so far as possible, preferential, reserved seating will be given to donors of this year's program; other seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved seats must be occupied 10 minutes before the performance.

What can I expect during the performance?

Shakespeare at Winedale performances are exciting, immersive experiences. The performers are university students from across the country, who have gathered to study and perform Shakespeare's classic plays.

Will there be an intermission?

Yes! There will be a 10 minute intermission. During this time, cold water and lemonade will be available for free at the Box Office. There will also be merchandise available for purchase using cash or card. You can also use intermission to go to the restroom.

What should I expect after the performance?

At Winedale, we don't have a curtain call. Instead, the performers will gather out by the Box Office in a circle and close out the performance together by saying "Curtain!" Then you will be able to say hello to the performers!

When should I arrive?

We encourage audience members to arrive 30-45 minutes before the performance, because you may not be able to enter late. Please allow ample time to park and arrive at the theatre. When you arrive, check in at the Box Office, which is located under the white tent.
