Booker Prize-winning author George Saunders and The New Yorker's Jia Tolentino take the stage at the 11th Annual Harrisburg Book Festival.

The Harrisburg Book Festival is honored to welcome Booker Prize-winning author George Saunders to the Whitaker Center for a conversation on his new book, Liberation Day. Saunders will be in conversation with The New Yorker&#x27;s Jia Tolentino. T﻿his ticketed event will take place at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg. Every ticket includes a signed copy of the paperback edition of Liberation Day and one general admission seat. Doors will open at 7:00pm, and the event will begin at 8:00pm. Seating is general admission; first come, first served.There will not be a public signing with the author following the program. Signed copies of George Saunders&#x27; previous books will be available for sale at the event, as well as Jia Tolentino&#x27;s book, Trick Mirror. In “Elliott Spencer,” our eighty-nine-year-old protagonist finds himself brainwashed, his memory “scraped”—a victim of a scheme in which poor, vulnerable people are reprogrammed and deployed as political protesters. And “My House”—in a mere seven pages—comes to terms with the haunting nature of unfulfilled dreams and the inevitability of decay.Together, these nine subversive, profound, and essential stories coalesce into a case for viewing the world with the same generosity and clear-eyed attention Saunders does, even in the most absurd of circumstances.About the Authors:George Saunders is the author of nine books, including the novel Lincoln in the Bardo, which won the Man Booker Prize, and the story collections Pastoralia and Tenth of December, which was a finalist for the National Book Award. He has received fellowships from the Lannan Foundation, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Guggenheim Foundation. In 2006 he was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship. In 2013 he was awarded the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in Short Fiction and was included in Time’s list of the one hundred most influential people in the world. He teaches in the creative writing program at Syracuse University.Jia Tolentino is a staff writer at The New Yorker. Raised in Texas, she studied at the University of Virginia before serving in Kyrgyzstan in the Peace Corps and receiving her MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan. She was a contributing editor at The Hairpin and the deputy editor at Jezebel, and her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Grantland, Pitchfork, and other publications.
