Company ProfileSince 1884, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (“BIW”) has played a prominent role in Maine’s maritime history and culture. It is a cornerstone of Maine’s economy and many communities, particularly in the Midcoast region. BIW is one of the largest employers in the state employing thousands of workers every year and generating hundreds of millions of dollars annually in payroll. Shipbuilding jobs provide attractive career pathways for Maine people building the world’s most technologically advanced Naval surface combatants. Jon A. Fitzgerald BioJon Fitzgerald is Vice President &amp; General Counsel and manages company legal matters as well as the workers’ compensation, risk management and contracts functions. Jon has primary responsibility for local and state government relations and works closely with General Dynamics Government Relations colleagues on federal legislative matters involving Maine’s Congressional Delegation.Prior to joining Bath Iron Works in 2002, Jon was an attorney at a law firm in Portland, Maine where he concentrated on litigation as well as government and regulatory affairs.Jon received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Boston University.Fitzgerald is a native of Bath, Maine and a third-generation Bath Iron Works shipbuilder. Jon serves on the Board of the Maine Chamber of Commerce, the Alfond Scholarship Foundation, the City of Bath Economic Development Committee and was the Founding Chairman of Maine Huts &amp; Trails.
