Sophia is an immigrant from Greece and published Sophia&#x27;s Return: Uncovering My Mother&#x27;s Past in September 2021, a memoir that unfolds in her natal home, Greece. Her forthcoming novel, An Unexpected Ally, (pub date October 3, 2023) is also set in Greece. Terry Repak, author of a forthcoming memoir Circling Home: What I Learned by Living Elsewhere, (pub date September 12, 2023) describes how the settings in several African countries and in Europe were critical in reshaping her character and world view. Jacquelyn Tuxill&#x27;s memoir, Whispers from the Valley of the Yak, (pub date September 26, 2023) details her multiple trips to China — where she&#x27;d been born to medical missionary parents—and how they transformed her sense of self and her relationship with her parents.<h3>About the books</h3>When Jackie accompanies her aging American parents to China, her birthplace, an unexpected revelation about her mother sets Jackie on a quest of self-discovery. She finds a passion for nature and the environment in Alaska. Later, retracing her parents&#x27; 1932 trek into Tibet, she understands she&#x27;s come full circle to the authentic life she craves.When Terry Repak and her husband moved to West Africa in the 1990s, he directed AIDS projects while she wrote and raised their children. Circling Home chronicles the adventures and challenges of connecting with people of other cultures and trying to find home in diverse countries.Seven-year-old Sophia watches her mother leave their Greek family home without a good-bye or explanation. She is raised by her grandmother and stepmother. Her mother&#x27;s departure becomes the child&#x27;s worry stone. Decades later, when she returns to Greece from America, she uncovers a family story she had never been told.<h3>About the authors</h3>Jacquelyn Tuxill was born in Chengdu, China, to medical missionary parents during WWII. The family left China in December 1944, flying &quot;over the Hump&quot; to India, eventually settling in rural West Virginia. Living five years in Alaska in the 1970s, she found a love of nature and outdoor adventure and began thirty-five years of environmental work. Jackie has a son and a daughter and has lived in Vermont for three decades. Whispers from the Valley of the Yak is her first book.Terry Repak worked as a reporter for several years before going to graduate school at the London School of Economics and Political Science and earning a PhD at Emory University. She and her partner lived in East and West Africa and in Europe, where he directed AIDS projects and she wrote and raised their children. She has published two other non-fiction books, numerous travel articles for newspapers and magazines, and her research in academic journals. She lives in Seattle where she continues to write and to teach English to foreign language learners (ELL) and to garden, hike, and swim.Sophia Kouidou-Giles writes poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. Her memoir, Sophia&#x27;s Return: Uncovering My Mother&#x27;s Past, is published in both Greek and English. An Unexpected Ally, a novella, is forthcoming in October 2023 and its sequel, Perse follows in November 2025. Her work and translations have been published in literary journals and anthologies.
