<h3>Storytelling In Jazz, Cabaret</h3><p><em><strong>Singer Maud Hixson releases her seventh album, songs by the multi-faceted composer Sir Richard Rodney Bennett. Best known for his classical works and film scores, and whose jazz compositions revealed his great love of the Great American Songbook. His last concert appearance was with Maud in Manhattan in 2012, and a decade after his passing, she presents his songs written for friends Blossom Dearie, Lena Horne and Cleo Laine, as well as some of his works outside the standard jazz repertoire.  Featured along with selections from the album will be stories about Hixson and Bennett&#x27;s collaboration, and songs by their shared favorite songwriters such as Noel Coward.</strong></em></p><p><strong>Maud Hixson</strong> vocals</p><p><strong>Rick Carlson</strong> piano</p><p>Hailed as “gently virtuosic” (All About Jazz), singer <strong>Maud Hixson</strong> is a devoted exponent of great songs, ranging from the classic Great American Songbook to the often unsung or forgotten compositions awaiting rediscovery. Maud is the recipient of four Artist Initiative grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Maud received a Next Step Grant from the McKnight Foundation in 2015 and her most recent Artist Initiative Grants funded a big band project in 2017 and a concert video in 2021. In 2016 she made her second appearance at Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center in a tribute to singer Sylvia Syms, hosted by Rex Reed and presented by the Mabel Mercer Foundation. After her Chicago debut in 2017, the Chicago Tribune’s Howard Reich proclaimed, “Hixson stood out as the biggest revelation at the Chicago Cabaret Convention”.
