This workshop takes a deep dive on the power of story and art for healing, and offers a first peek at the "Opioid Wakes" exhibition.

Join us in a two-part story and art workshop for healing, all within the safe and contained space that art- and story-making provides when guided by practiced professionals.The first half hour of the program is devoted to participants having the opportunity to preview the exhibition Opioid Wakes, which officially opens later that evening. The show features a three-channel video by Dina Fiasconaro exploring the relationship between a father, daughter and friend whose lives are tragically impacted by addiction, and Peter Bruun’s “Memoir Series,&quot; 16 expressive drawings incorporating written autobiographical vignettes that evoke his emotional journey in the aftermath of his daughter’s death from overdose. The workshop then opens with David Fakunle and Deborah Pierce-Fakunle, co-founders of DiscoverME/RecoverME, who use a process based on African oral tradition to help participants discover their stories and acknowledge its significance in their lives. After a short break, Sharon Strouse and Peggy Kolodny lead a three-part art experiential called “Create-Destroy-Transform,&quot; an activity for participants to process what may have arisen during the first half of the workshop, and enhance for them the transformative and reparative possibilities that come from expressing personal narrative through art.
