The Verdant Health Commission funds a wide range of programs that empower people in South Snohomish County to make healthy decisions and get the care they need to stay well. For nearly half a century, we served the health needs of our community by managing the local community hospital. We are now focused on investing in innovative programs that will make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of South Snohomish County residents.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month —a time to raise awareness of this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic.

We use Suicide Prevention Awareness Month to help shift public perception, spread hope and share vital information to people affected by suicide. The goal is ensuring that individuals, families and communities have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help. The good news is that suicide is preventable. Preventing suicide requires strategies at all levels of society. Everyone can help prevent suicide by learning the warning signs, promoting prevention and resilience, and a committing to social change.Join us for lunch* at the Lynnwood Event Center on Saturday September 16th from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm to learn more about how diverse groups may be more disproportionally impacted by suicide, including youth, Native Americans, older adults, veterans and LGBTQ individuals. Participants will gain insight into alternatives to suicide and how our actions, no matter how big or small, may provide hope to those who are struggling.O﻿ur featured speaker is Kevin Hines, Golden Gate Bridge Jump Survivor. In 2000, Kevin attempted to take his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Many factors contributed to his miraculous survival including a sea lion that kept him afloat until the Coast Guard arrived. Kevin now travels the world sharing his story of hope, healing, and recovery while teaching people of all ages the art of wellness and the ability to survive pain with true resilience. O﻿ur guest speaker is Ashley McGirt, Adair, MSW, LICSW, Speaker|Therapist, who has been featured in Forbes Magazine and has appeared on MSNBC, Bravo, and OWN.Join us to learn more about at risk populations, and the resources available to support those in crisis. There will be an opportunity to meet and learn about various resources within our community that can help, as well as hear from industry leaders in supporting prevention efforts. You will be provided with a number of supportive give aways, including 2 raffles, and adult and kids educational tools, stress balls, fidget toys, and relaxation gifts. You will be able to pay tribute to a loved one with wearing an honor bead necklace, reflecting your personal connection to the cause.D﻿ue to the nature of the information provided, it is suggested that children are age 10 and above.*﻿ Lunch will be provided at approximately 12:15 pm. Assorted gourmet sandwiches along with cold beverages will be available. Gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options available.
