Breaking Through Barriers is all about pushing boundaries, challenging ourselves, and embracing change. Whether you're looking to expand your horizons, gain new perspectives, or simply connect with like-minded individuals, this event is perfect for you.

Throughout the day, we will have inspiring speakers, and engaging activities that will encourage you. You will hear motivational talks that will leave you feeling empowered and ready to conquer any challenges that come your way.

Maryland Wellness provides individualized mental health care and life skills support to strengthen clients, families and communities. We're located in Cumberland and throughout the state.
 We invite partners to help us reach hundreds of community members with resources, hope experiences, strength and inspiration to promote health, well-being and healing. Partners can include nonprofits, government organizations, local (Allegany County) organizations, or community-minded businesses that can provide a free resource, etc., subject to the goal of the event.W﻿e will be providing free lunch to all of our attendees courtesy of our partners and sponsors for this event. We will also feature bounce house fun and more to create a family-friendly environment for all!

T﻿hese are some of the individuals whow will be speaking at our event and what you can expect to hear in their message:L﻿ou Ortenzio-This West Virginia doctor overcame his own battle with addiction and now helps others to recover. Originally from Westernport, Maryland, Lou has had quite a journey in his lifetime. Because for four decades, I have lived through every facet of this complex and heart-wrenching problem. And I wake up every day filled with hope.
 As a small-town doctor, he prescribed opioids to generations of patients in pain—physical, emotional and spiritual pain.

He became addicted to those same drugs. He lost my medical practice, fractured his family and was convicted of prescription fraud. God found him, and he entered into recovery. Now he works at the Clarksburg Mission, a shelter and treatment center that has been helping his town’s most vulnerable residents since 1971. A﻿licia Long-Living the experience of having a close family member commit suicide and the note left behind advocated for more awareness, prevention and treatment for suicide, Alicia shares her experience, strength, hope and passion in bringing a message, carrying he legacy of her family member who wanted more advocacy and awareness in Suicide Prevention.D﻿avid Hill- As a member of our nation&#x27;s military and and growing up raised in the church, David came home from service to become addicted to drugs. As a result of his addiction, he was convicted of a murder he did not commit and served 20 years in prison. While there, he found God and God found him. He became transformed in prison and dedicated his life to sharing a message of hope and recovery and for sharing God with all whom were lost in prison. Upon his release, he has stayed steadfast in his faith and built a mission for himself in our community. Free Indeed Ministries is his organization that helps all struggling with reentry and recovery in our community. David will share his journey in overcoming his barriers.C﻿hris Z.-After struggling for many years in addiction and all that comes with it, Chris found a 12 step program that helped him to overcome his addiction. Chris celebrates 36 years clean on August 20th and will share his experience strength and hope in overcoming addiction and how he has been able to do it. He has had his share of barriers in recovery and will speak about how to &quot;get through the hard times and overcome barriers in recovery and in life&quot;.M﻿arvin D.-After battling drug addiction and many of life&#x27;s challenges, Marvin found help for himself in the rooms of a 12 step program. His belief is that &quot;Change is Possible, no matter where you are at. &quot; He stated,&quot;I&#x27;ve learned that living life is about choices and decisons. My thing now is I am learning to live and living to learn. He will inspire you with his experience strength and hope as he shares with you his journey in overcoming barriers during his lifetime and the almost 4 years of his recovery.C﻿ody B.-After struggling with the criminal justice system for years and his battle with his addiction, Cody found a 12 step program that worked for him and started making changes in his life. Those changes helped him to find lasting recovery. He has faced many barriers and overcame them and he will speak what they were and how he did it. Cody works now as a Peer Specialist for Healing Allegany/AHEC West and is an invaluable member of the team reaching out to those in our community.E﻿rin Willis- After watching a family member struggle with addiction for years and dealing with all of the pain and grief this can bring to a family, Erin will share her experience, strength and hope as family member of an addict and the impact that it has had on her life and the lives of her family members. She will talk about giving tough love and not enabling the process and how she and her family were able to overcome this vicious disease, all of the barriers they faced and where she and her family are today with that process. Erin is the Director of Buisness Development with Maryland Wellness today and will provide a message of hope and healing to the families of those who struggle with addiction.A﻿ngela Greenwood-As a child, she was severely abused and in and out of foster homes and emanicipated and on the street at 17 after graduating high school. Angela learned that she had to commit crimes in order to survive and began using drugs and stealing to cope with hunger and starvation, as there were no services that could or would assist her. In and out of the correctional system for many years, doing life on an installment plan, Angela finally had a situation that stopped her dead in her tracks. She got help from many different services and faced her trauma head on and began to change her life. She went on the get her bachelor&#x27;s degree in Social Work and master&#x27;s degree in college when another tragedy struck. Surviving through her fourth major car accident, fully disabled and totally helpless just a few short years ago, she shares her battes with mental health, drug addiction, and reentry and the barriers that she has had to face and how to overcome. Today she works as the Community Relations Coordinator for Maryland Wellness and will share with you her journey to provide inspiration, hope and a sense of healing.C﻿elebrate Recovery and Lydia Yoder along with many Celebrate Recovery members will be featured sharing thier cardboard testimonials of barriers they faced or are facing and how they were able to overcome.
