&quot;M﻿usic in the Garden&quot; episode 1 features an art installation by Hasani Cannon and a live concert from Blind Glass.Blind Glass is an interdisciplinary ensemble that explores an eclectic musical landscape, combining spoken word, improvisation and performance art within a multi-dimensional aesthetic world. Our goal is to re-imagine traditional performance in the following ways:Improvisation – we seek to explore improvisational elements within the different musical languages of our ensemble musicians.Sensations – Music is the ultimate teacher; we seek to produce performances that evoke both visual and theatrical elements. We are fascinated by how sound activates and interacts with the visual world. Poetry – We aim to explore how speech and its natural rhythms influence music. We are inspired by the poetic forms that come out of the Dadaist movement, and seek to move past the constraints of linguistic syntax. Storytelling – Storytelling is the center of our vision–both from a musical and from an aesthetic standpoint. Our repertoire captures and intertwines a wide array of themes, such as the awe of the natural world and the whimsy of childhood. We vacillate between spoken word, sung text, wordless melodies, and traditional instrumental forms – juxtaposing order and chaos. We hope our audiences will come away from our performances reconsidering what music, language, and art can mean.Blind Glass is the 2022-2023 Wildcard Honors Ensemble from New England Conservatory. The name “Blind Glass” comes from the book Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein. Hasani Cannon was born and raised in Oak Park IL and has been an artist since the tender age of 5. Hasani was a finalist in Congressman Danny Davis Art Competition, a featured Artist in the OPRFHS Art Gallery, and was a contributing artist for the 2020 Black Lives Matter mural created in Oak Park. African Iconography serves as Hasani’s basis behind most of his works. His preferred medium is mixed media which includes the use of colored pencil, permanent marker, recyclable materials, charcoal and fabric. Hasani recently graduated from The University of Illinois Springfield majoring in Visual Arts. He is currently looking for master programs in art education, therapy and/or in the visuals arts. He is inspired by the works of Kehinde Wiley and Bisa Butler. Hasani is also a musician, a dancer, and a poet with his long term goal being to create a community-centered artist space for youth in future.
