Diversity Dialogues - Resistance to Discussing Issues of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity

The Austin Group Psychotherapy Society is an interdisciplinary organization of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and counselors who share a mutual commitment to continuing professional development and to excellence in the practice of group psychotherapy.Over the past decade, the Austin Group Psychotherapy Society (AGPS) has gained national recognition for the quality of our training opportunities and the warmth and enthusiasm of our members.AGPS trainings and social events are designed to mentor new professionals and students, expand the knowledge and clinical skills of all members, and enrich and rejuvenate established practitioners.

<H2>Sunday Night Diversity Dialogue AGPS Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Committee </H2>
Power, privilege, and oppression can be difficult to talk about in families, workplaces, and other groups. What do you feel when these topics arise? Do you shut down and tune out? Do you feel defensive, nervous, or uncomfortable?
Let’s unpack what happens when members of varying levels of power, privilege, and oppression are in group together. How are these topics talked about or avoided? How might we facilitate bridging among and between members of various intersecting identities? What resistances might we face in discussing differences? 
 We’ll explore our own resistances that arise when approaching these topics. Attention will also be given to intersecting identities in clinicians’ personal and professional lives, as well as the benefits and challenges of groups. 
Non-alcoholic beverages and light snacks will be offered.
Charge:  There is no charge for this event.
Note:  All therapists and students in the therapy field are welcome. Hosted by:  AGPS Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity Committee and facilitated by Ani Mirasol, LCSW
