On June 2, 1875, a group of art students had the radical idea to create their own art school—one designed for and run byindependent artists.These students broke away from theNational Academy of Design and started the Art Students League of New York—an atelier-style institution whereanyone with an interest in art education can learn traditional fine art technique.Withmore than 100 classes taught in-studio and online, League students make art from day one. League artistslearn by doing, under the guidance of professional artist instructors. Free from a set curriculum and restrictive grading system, League students can focus on making art.There are no applications or prerequisites. The Art Students League of New York is proud to present the annual Juried Selection Exhibition, which featured juror selected work from our Student Salons, representing some of the highest caliber work being produced by League artists today. This exhibition is a celebration of our students and our community’s commitment to artmaking. The works on view were selected by the renowned jurors and are curated by the League’s Gallery Director and Curator of the gallery Ksenia Nouril, PhD.  Student Salons is an annual series of exhibitions featuring current or recent student work across all disciplines taught at the League. The Student Salons includes artwork from any student who chooses to display their work. A majority of those exhibitions are juried by an invited guest — a prominent artist, curator, or scholar within the artworld. Artwork in the Juried Selection Exhibition is selected from our open Student Salons and represents the independent jurors’ favorite student artworks.
