Contemporary Arts Programs

Angels Gate Cultural Center (San Pedro, CA) is home to two contemporary art galleries and over 50 artist studios. From artist talks to gallery openings, there are always new ways to connect with the arts at AGCC.

You are invited to an Artist Talk featuring the artists of Part Two! a shadow out of the noise, currently on view at the Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) Gallery. This live, in-gallery talk will take place Saturday, August 19th from 2pm-4pm. The Artist Talk will feature Beck+Col and collaborators Kayla Aguila and Tetiana Sklyarova. This Artist Talk will provide the opportunity for the public to engage directly with the artists while in the gallery. The event will also include a special performance of an original piece by Aguila and Sklyarova. This performance explores sensations related to the feeling of home. They practice moving from qualities of impulse, chaos, spontaneity, and fluidity. As immigrants, they go through their shared experience of failed assimilation to find their identities. They grapple between their duality of home and present through memories. Through the process, they ultimately construct a truthful depiction of their identities.

A hyper-visceral experience is created by Beck+Col&#x27;s avant-garde use of opera, heavy metal, and fantastical wearable sculptures in their otherworldly performances. Creating overwhelming sensations that employ both the visual and auditory in decidedly non-traditional contexts, Beck+Col unleash the inner-self to arrive at raw and unrestrained human experience. For this performance of Part Two! a shadow out of the noise at AGCC, Beck+Col play on the gothic concept of the double, exploring the horror that arises from the appearance of one’s exact duplicate. A followup to part one in which a single being is split into two mirrored images by a dark outside force, Part Two! follows them on a chaotic path desperately trying to reunite in the underworld.

Part Two! a shadow out of the noise, curated by Beck+Col, is on view from July 8th - September 16th, 2023. The gallery is open to the public Thursday - Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
