Click here to join today.</a></p><h2>Harvest Moon Drumming: Embodied Contemplation</h2><h3>Domain: Creative Expression, Contemplative Practice</h3><p>Full Moon Drumming can be described as a spiritual, communal, and potentially therapeutic music experience in which participants join together in a circle with drums, move, and dance using various percussion instruments. In addition, because there is no head or tail, a drum circle offers an experience of equality. </p><p>The Old Farmer’s Almanac tells us that for several evenings, the Autumn moonrise comes soon after sunset. This results in an abundance of bright moonlight early in the evening, which was a traditional aid to farmers and crews harvesting their summer-grown crops. Hence, its name “Harvest” Moon!</p><p>Studies show that drumming for even 10-15 minutes balances all four sides of the brain. The beat of the drum helps to ground a person&#x27;s thoughts and decrease feelings of stress or anxiety.</p><p>Please bring your own drum. A djembe drum is preferred; however, you may also use a Nigerian Ashiko or conga drum, or any drum or percussion instrument you have, such as a shekere, rattle, bell or woodblock so you can play along during improvisation time. If you don&#x27;t have a drum you can bring, please let The Hive know via email (Geralyn@cincyhive.org).</p><p>Dr. Tanya Price is an anthropologist specializing in cultures of the African Diaspora. Tanya has traveled extensively around the world researching, participating in the cultures of various peoples, performing and studying African drumming with Masters in the tradition, including Mamady Keita.</p><p>Weather permitting, drumming will take place outside on the grounds of the Hive.</p><h3>Covid Considerations: Masks are currently optional at the Hive. Individuals may choose to wear a mask for personal protection, and as always, we ask anyone who is feeling sick or has a high temperature to not attend until they are recovered.
