JAZZ VOICE LAB: FALL  2019 - CLASS 2 | SINGING & SWINGING

We were created to offer emerging vocalists the opportunity to study, learn and work one-on-one with professional singers and instrumentalists to help take them to a higher level of musicianship.  Founded and led by Jazz Vocalist Michelle Walker,Jazz Voice Labwill offer yearly workshop classes, summer intensive clinics, masterclasses and performances by touring, some of the most respected and Grammy-nominated peer vocalist.Our philosophy is to provide a non-competitive program opportunity for singers to foster personal musical growth.  We do not require an audition.  Having the ability to read music is good but not necessary.  We ask that you come with a open mind, open ears, adventurous spirit and a willingness to learn!Come spend time with us in our New York City Times Square location to enhance your jazz vocal education.  There is so much to learn and we are thrilled to offer these clinic opportunities to participants that are beginners to advance vocalists to further their love for singing or move their careers forward.For more information, click one of the semester buttons below or contact us: JazzVoiceLab@Gmail.com​

If you love to sing, then this course is for you! It is ideal for beginning to advanced singers looking to gain more in-depth knowledge working with a class jazz band. Come have fun learning in a Group Class Setting! We will end the course with a group performance at an area jazz club!<ul><li>Learn How to Lead A Band</li><li>Instrument Roles and Functions</li><li>Effective Communication Ques</li><li>Expand Your Repertoire</li><li>Explore Different Musical Styles, Grooves and Feels </li><li>Deconstructing Melodic &amp; Rhythmic Improvisation</li><li>It's About Time: Learn to Sing in Multiple Time Signatures</li><li>Creative Song Arranging to Set You Apart</li></ul>​As you will learn, there are rules of engagement in jazz. Understanding form, following form, communicating effectively, musically and non-verbally with your musicians key growth elements. Singers must learn to give very clear ques and direction because you are the leader of the band. We will spend time learning how to count tunes, listening to your musicians, navigating tunes harmonically and knowing how to respond to musicians musically. We will review stylist ideas in performance and song arranging that can set you apart as a singer. These are skills that can be learned to have a wonderful and exciting performance.
