Join us for an information session on the proposals in the discussion document, Safer Online Services and Media Platforms.

On June 1 2023, the Department of Internal Affairs released a discussion document, Safer Online Services and Media Platforms, outlining our proposals to regulate online services and media platforms in New Zealand. We want to make sure the proposals in the discussion document meet the expectations of New Zealanders and, if not, how they could be improved. In this online session, we will explain the proposals in more detail and give you the opportunity to ask questions.You&#x27;ll find out more about:<ul><li>The principles and objectives behind the proposals.</li><li>The key features of the proposals.</li><li>The role that a new regulator would play.</li><li>How to provide us with your feedback on the proposals.</li></ul>You will also have the chance to ask us any questions you might have.There will be an NZSL interpreter and closed captions at this event.Information session details: <ul><li>The session will be a 1 hour Zoom webinar. The webinar format means that your attendance is private; you will not be able to see or communicate with other participants during the event. </li><li>We will begin with a presentation on the proposals in the discussion document, before briefly running through the ways that you can provide us with feedback after the session. </li><li>You will be able to submit your questions privately through the chat throughout the event, and we will take some time after the presentation to answer these. Please be aware that there may be a large number of questions depending on how large the audience will be on the day. </li><li>After the session we may publish a summary of the questions and answers from the event. This summary will be anonymised and will not attribute any questions to participants. </li><li>These will be analysed and will feed into high-level policy proposals for the Government to consider before Government makes decisions on the detailed requirements. </li><li>Any information we hold may be subject to a request to us under the Official Information Act 1982. We can withhold personal details under this Act, including names and addresses. If you need us to withhold information, please make this clear when you are asking a question or making a comment, and explain why. For example, you might want some information to remain confidential because it is commercially sensitive or personal. The Department will take your request into account. </li><li>The Privacy Act 2020 governs how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information about attendees.
