Join Music Resident Alum Amirtha Kidambi for a class about the vocal system and tools and resources for addressing vocal health issues.

Music Resident Alum Amirtha Kidambi has nearly lost her voice mid-tour and the stress of trying to get it back has only compounded the issue. Since then, Kidambi studied vocal therapy through the Sean Parker Institute of the Voice at Weill-Cornell and developed a set of vocal exercises, vocal health regimes, and best practices for sustained vocal use. In this class, Kidambi will share general information about the vocal mechanism and system (breath, support, resonance), tools and resources for addressing vocal health issues, and tips for common issues around travel, touring, and other repetitive use situations.Date: This two-time in-person workshop meets on Thursdays, August 17 and August 24 from 7-9 pm ET.Price: $100Audience: Working musicians or vocal practitioners of any genre who are concerned with stamina and longevity for intensive and repetitive vocal use such as touring, recording sessions, voice over, acting or teaching.Materials: Materials will be provided.Accessibility: Class will meet on the 2nd floor, which is accessible via stairs.Amirtha Kidambi is an experimental vocalist, improviser and composer, with training in classical voice, Alexander Technique, voice therapy and speech pathology. Kidambi is experienced in a wide range of genres and use a variety of vocal techniques from timbral and &quot;extended&quot; techniques to approaches drawn from Indian music and free improvisation. She has been performing, touring and recording professionally for over a decade.
