Kerry-born and Limerick-based Naive Ted, brings his scratch skills and beats to The Kicking Donkey, Bundoran, as part of the Treehouse Live Halloween Special - Saturday 28th October.Naive Ted is a DJ, turntablist &amp; producer known for wrecking dance floors with esoteric dance music presented in the quickmix style with skills honed in the competitive world of DJ battles. Initially coming to the fore as part of the one man duo Deviant &amp; Naive Ted, he was a pioneer of alternative hip-hop music in Ireland in the 2000s, producing a slew of innovative and individualistic releases using only a turntable, mixer and loop pedal, eschewing all forms of digital FX, editing and processing. However it was not until 2014 that Ted showed his face in public. Early shows were a defiant cry against the creative cul-de-sac that turntablism had found itself, poking fun at the virtuosity fetish so prevalent in the scene, subverting the norms of the genre with frenzied, frantic and awkward, uncomfortable performances that veered dangerously close to falling apart.His debut solo LP, “The Inevitable Heel Turn”, received much acclaim and was the beginning of Ted’s emergence beyond turntablism and skratch music. Countless gigs followed, notably touring with Rusangano Family, giveamanakick and headlining events at Galway Jazz Festival, Make a Move Festival and Quarter Block Party.Thus followed a creative purple patch with regular solo releases and collaborations with many luminaries in the Irish underground including Jinx Lennon, God Knows, Hazey Haze, Post Punk Podge, Murli, Percolator, Steve Ryan, Citrus Fresh and more.Further evolution was to come as Ted fully embraced the dance music that had been lurking in the background for so long. The shows that followed have leaned heavily on the influence of classic techno, a hyperactive live/DJ set hybrid in the style of Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke and Claude Young but with a dose of new wave experimentalism and Reichian minimalism techniques combining to create a wholly unique dancefloor experience.Ted has been quieter in recent years, but still occasionally pops out from under the stairs when the mood takes him, e.g. a momentous headline set at Open Ear festival; reuniting with Deviant for a woozy collaboration with the Irish Chamber Orchestra; a low key classic performance to open Feile na Greine festival; a couple of high risk, improvised performances with drummer Dan Walsh/Fixity; and most recently dropping an entirely beatless, one-off, semi-improvised set in support of Scottish piper Brighde Chaimbeul. We have it on good authority that he’s been in the ring drilling daily so we can only presume there’s new music to come. Or something.Whatever it is, there will be dancing. And skratching. And weird shit. Dancing. Skratching. Weird shit. That’s Naive Ted.Rapper Hazey Haze and beatmaker mankyy join forces to present songs from their upcoming project ‘SHY BOII GETS NO SWEETS’. A body of work about pain, growth… and home.Originally part of Limerick rap trio Same D4ence, Hazey has proven himself a prolific solo artist in recent years - with multiple projects since 2018 including debut album ‘Is Mise’. Debuting on Fader Magazine and spanning 19 tracks, the project features collaborations with Deviant and Naive Ted, MurLi, mankyy and more. Known for raw and emotional lyricism and an intense and energetic live performance.mankyy is a producer and artist from Co. Clare, living in Limerick City. Releasing primarily through Unscene and now-defunct PX Music, his output has become more experimental over time, but retains a focus on sample manipulation and intimate collaboration with others. His most recent release was the ‘SIDE A // SIDE B’ soundtrack with Thérèse Tynan for their audiovisual exhibition of the same name. His last full work with a rapper was 2019’s Popstarr with fellow Clare man Clerk 5, which also included a Hazey feature on the second track - ‘RGB’.
