Jennifer Zmuda is an Emmy award-winning director and professional photographer in Columbus, Ohio. Drawing on her national reputation as a dance photographer, Jennifer’s photography services showcase a passion for movement and storytelling that sets her work apart.

How long is the in-person session?

It will be 3 hours.

What topics will be covered in the in-person session?

Topics covered include ensuring safety during shoots, warm-up techniques, accounting for environmental factors, and practicing poses before capturing them on camera. Jennifer will also discuss aspects of dance photography: style, form, composition, dynamics, expression, and the quality of technique.

Will I have the opportunity to work with professional dancers?

Yes, former professional ballerina Karen Wing will be assisting Jennifer with this workshop along with several other professional track dancers. Karen danced professionally for over a decade and most recently danced for BalletMet for 9 years until she retired in March of 2023.

How will the Zoom session be structured?

The 1-hr Zoom session will consist of Jennifer guiding the participants through the process of culling images. The participants will have the opportunity to showcase their favorite shots too. This session will provide valuable feedback and a chance to further refine their skills.

Can I get feedback on my photos after the workshop?

For those seeking additional guidance, participants can choose to add on a one-on-one virtual session with Jennifer. This personalized session allows for portfolio review and a deep dive into any dance photography-related topics participants wish to explore.

What kind of camera equipment do I need to bring?

Accepted Answer

Participants should bring whatever camera they have and are familiar with using. Since the workshop will be outdoors during the late afternoon/early evening, no additional lighting or equipment will be needed.

Is this workshop good for beginner photographers?

Accepted Answer

Participants should have a basic understanding of photography and know how to use their camera in manual mode.
