Culture Pushis an arts organization that creates programs to nurture artists and other creatives who are approaching common problems through hands-on civic participation and imaginative problem-solving.The mission of Culture Push is to create a lively exchange of ideas between many different communities; artists and non-artists, professional practitioners and laypeople, across generations, neighborhoods, and cultures. We support the process of creating new modes of thinking and doing and serves a diverse community of creative people. Our programs focus on collaboration and group learning through active, participatory experiences, and appear in many different locations, taking many different forms.

Experience the Culture Push Fellows and Associated Artists' work at the 6th Show Don’t Tell Symposium. Engage in workshops, screenings, and presentations intersecting imagination, social change, and civic participation.

Join Lauren Covey as she discusses her new work “a sonic family portrait” and shares her process of working with sound as a mental health tool. She will teach participants her process of recording sound as a coping tool by recording from emotionally charged environments and remixing them into unique soundscapes. We will meet at Bluestockings Bookstore on 116 Suffolk Street and journey through the streets of the Lower East Side on a sound walk through Lauren’s neighborhood, and record sounds as we make our way to <a href="https://ramayogainstitute.com/new-york/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ra Ma New York </a>yoga studio on 125 Stanton Street, where we will perform a live mixing session to create a portrait of our experience together. <h3>About the Artist:</h3><h3>LAUREN COVEY, Culture Push Associated Artist</h3>Lauren Covey (b. 1982 Lynchburg. Virginia) is an artist working with sound, video, installation, photography, and performance. After completing a B.S. in Fashion Design from Drexel University and working in the fashion industry, Covey studied at the Art Students League before receiving an MFA in Sound Art from Columbia University in 2021. Simultaneously she worked as a peer counselor in the mental health field, and sound has always been an essential part of her mental health. Covey hopes that her artwork can inspire social change through advocacy and her involvement in the community. Her work has been exhibited at the Governors Island Art Fair, Fridman Gallery, and Fountain House Gallery.<a href="http://laurencovey.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">http://laurencovey.com</a>
