Rain Dogs

Author Judy Blume "grew up as a good girl with a bad girl lurking inside." She wanted to give her adolescent readers a chance to explore their own feelings, sexuality, and moral landscape, and wrote 29 books to help them do that. Finally, she's telling her own story, assisted by Jacksonville native Leah Wolchok, who co-directed and co-produced the documentary, *Judy Blume Forever.*From the trailer description: "The radical honesty of the books by trailblazing author Judy Blume changed the way millions of adolescent readers understood themselves, their sexuality, and what it meant to grow up, but also led to critical battles against book banning and censorship. "With humor, sensitivity, and a healthy dose of adolescent cringe, JUDY BLUME FOREVER tells the story of the woman whose trail-blazing books changed the way millions of readers understand themselves, their sexuality, and what it means to grow up."Come to a free watch party at Rain Dogs in Five Points and support women like Judy, Leah, and all the other writers who have been banned, criticized, and censored—especially here in Florida. The more we know, the more we can reduce the fear and misinformation that causes book banning to begin with. See you there!This program is a lead-up to our Author Showcase and Book Festival on Sunday, June 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., showcasing more than 30 local women authors. Leah will speak to us via Zoom along with other speakers from Women Writing Jacksonville, MomsRising, and the Florida Freedom to Read Project. We support THE FREEDOM TO READ JUDY! (And everyone else!)
