The Hidden Cost of Unmanaged StressWhile we have made a lot of progress in recent decades in regards to societal expectations on the lives of women, we still have a long way to go. Most women invest tons of energy juggling the physical and emotional demands of both their careers and relationships every single day. Add to this the unique challenge of becoming an entrepreneur or a leader in your community, and you have a guaranteed recipe for living under the weight of intense stress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This workshop will reinforce the premise that making time for self-care is not a mere indulgence, but rather an imperative, if we are to reach our full potential and achieve our goals. We must reject the social narrative that any time we spend in “unproductive” activities like rest, is a waste. Instead, we must fill our own cups to enrich the lives of others.In this 45-minute workshop, participants will:•	Learn how stress affects our physical bodies and what the long-term implications of stress can be if not managed effectively•	Participate in reflection/journaling exercises to get in touch with their unique experience of stress•	Explore the benefits of self-care and why it can propel us to new heights in our professional and personal lives•	Bust some of the myths we tell ourselves that reinforce the negative stress cycle•	Experience a mindfulness exercise to help us tune into the physical sensations that materialize from self-defeating thoughtsParticipants who are interested can sign up for the virtual/in-person Pilates mat class taking place immediately after at half price using the discount code HIDDENCOST.T﻿hose who are interested and located nearby are welcome to attend in person. While this workshop is geared toward the experiences of people who identify as a woman, it is open to anyone.Dana Karen (DK) Ciccone owns <a href="https://movementremedies.org" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Movement Remedies</a> in the North End of Boston, a wellness space dedicated to helping people feel confident and pain-free in their bodies through use of the Pilates method and equipment, pain education and coaching. In addition to being a comprehensively certified Pilates instructor through Balanced Body, DK has completed training in pain reprocessing therapy and somatic tracking. DK leveraged years of continuing education along with research in the psychology of pain and fear to address decades of chronic low back and hip pain in her own life. After leaving her career as a senior executive in a management consulting firm, she now uses these tools to help clients find joy in movement again after traumatic physical experiences like joint replacement surgeries, car accidents, cancer treatment, spinal fusions, and chronic condition diagnoses.
