J﻿oin us on Wednesdays in June at KGD Farm for a four-part community quilt making series with Cyrah Dardas!

Keep Growing Detroit Farm

This series is a hands-on conversation about ways that fiber arts are intertwined with our plant stewardship practices. Our making of the community quilt will also kick off a summer of celebrating 10 years of Keep Growing Detroit!T﻿he first and second classes will be an intro to place based art making highlighting the following practices:June 7 - Natural dyeing with indigoJune 14 - Natural dyeing with cabbageT﻿he third and fourth classes will explore quilt making as a sacred action as we collectively cut and pin the quilt:June 21 - Intro to the basics of quilt design, part 1June 28 - Intro to the basics of quilt making, part 2$﻿5 suggested donation. We accept cash, check, and <a href="https://www.paypal.com/donate/?cmd=_s-xclick&amp;hosted_button_id=M5EKGY5BPHBYQ" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">PayPal</a> donations.Cyrah Dardas is a Queer, American/Persian, ecologically minded artist and care worker living in Detroit/Waawiyaatanong, Anishinaabe territory. Through their practice, they address the ecofeminist parallels in the treatment of femmes and gender-expansive folks, and the mistreatment of the earth by toxic hierarchical systems like the patriarchy. Their process is an invitation to remember the forgotten networks between humans and the earth to heal our collective body, compost grief, and restore interdependency. They are informed by their work in abolitionist education, land stewardship, youth collaboration, as a member of the artist cooperative Portal For, and through their work with natural fibers, earth pigments, and botanical inks. Their practice is deeply rooted in process + ritualizes eco-social art-making.
