<h2>Perfume de Gardenias Film Screening - Proyección de la película Perfume de Gardenias </h2><p>DE GARDENIAS is a feature-length fiction film that tells the story of Isabel, an older woman who blossoms by becoming a peculiar funeral  decorator.</p><p>PERFUME DE GARDENIAS es un largometraje de ficción que cuenta la historia de Isabel, una mujer mayor que florece al convertirse en decoradora de funerales peculiares.</p><h2>D﻿irector/Directora:</h2><p>Macha Colón is Gisela Rosario Ramos, an un-disciplined artist currently based in Puerto Rico. She studied Black and Puerto Rican Studies, Fine Arts and Film and Media Studies at Hunter College in NYC where she began as a documentary editor. Started in theater performance as part of Eduardo Alegria’s performance shows in PS 122. Upon returning to Puerto Rico, she worked as Artistic and Programming Director at Casa de Cultura Ruth Hernández, organizing cultural events while continuing to edit and direct films. Her award-winning short documentary El Hijo de Ruby has been shown in international festivals. Macha has performed rock/pop music with her band Macha Colón y Los Okapi in alternative venues since 2008. Their album Tanquecito de Amor (Little Tank of Love) includes the queer youth anthem “Jayá”, and performed in NYC at the Loisaida Festival, La Marqueta Retoña in El Barrio and the New Museum. Recently, she won an international documentary competition to film Love Letters to an Iconess, a documentary about Lucecita Benítez, a Puerto Rican queer diva who’s now in her seventies. She’s an Art Matters Foundation and NALAC grantee and received the first Resiliency Award through the Arts from the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts &amp; Culture in Chicago. In 2020, she received the inaugural William Greaves Fund for mid-career filmmakers from Firelight Media for the development of her next feature documentary. She’s an artist in the Puerto Rican Artist Initiative from Northwestern University, an artistic platform incubator. Recently, she received the 2021 United States Artist Fellowship. She premiered her first narrative feature film, Perfume de Gardenias, at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021. Her current companion is Sombra, a very undisciplined elder Puertorican mutt that makes her life exciting. </p><p>Gisela Rosario Ramos es Macha Colón, artista indisciplinada que actualmente reside en Puerto Rico. Estudió Estudios Afroamericanos y Puertorriqueños y Estudios de Cine y Medios de Comunicación en Hunter College en NYC, donde también trabajó como editora de documentales y formó parte de los performances de Eduardo Alegría en PS 122. A su regreso a Puerto Rico, trabajó como Directora Artística y de Programación en la Casa de Cultura Ruth Hernández, organizando eventos culturales mientras continuaba editando y dirigiendo películas. Su documental corto El Hijo de Ruby ha sido exhibido en festivales internacionales y recibido premios. Toca música rock/pop con su banda Macha Colón y Los Okapi en lugares alternativos desde 2008. Publicaron su primer álbum Tanquecito de amor en 2016 y actuaron en Nueva York en el Festival de Loisaida, La Marqueta Retoña en El Barrio y el Nuevo Museo. Recientemente, ganó un concurso internacional de documentales para filmar Lucecita, un documental sobre una diva maricona puertorriqueña que ahora tiene más de setenta años. Es becaria de la Fundación Art Matters y de NALAC y recibió el primer Premio a la Resistencia a través de las Artes del Museo Nacional de Arte y Cultura Puertorriqueña en Chicago. En el 2020, recibió el Fondo inaugural William Greaves para cineastas a mitad de carrera de Firelight Media para el desarrollo de su próximo largometraje documental. Es artista de la Puerto Rican Artist Initiative de Northwestern University, una incubadora de plataformas artísticas. Ha recibido la beca United States Artist Fellowship en el 2021.
