The Center for Arts at the Armory is a non-profit organization that resides in a historic Armory building, serving Somerville and the Greater Boston community and beyond as an accessible and inclusive venue for the arts, cultural and community events, exhibitions, markets, classes and more.The mission of Arts at the Armory is to provide an inclusive and accessible venue that creates opportunities for artists and cultural workers, brings diverse audiences together, enriches and transforms lives, and promotes the creative economy. In addition to the many events that CAA hosts that are produced independently of CAA, CAA has five signature programs: The Spotlight Series, The Performance Opportunity Program (POP), The Somerville Winter Farmers Market, The ROOTED Armory Cafe Event Series, and ROOTED Armory Cafe Visual Arts Exhibitions. CAA curates and produces performances in the Armory Performance Hall featuring local and touring artists as part of our Spotlight Series.

Chris Pureka’s folk and Americana-infused songwriting has pulled listeners in over the span of their 20 year career. The “elegant emotionality” of Pureka’s vocals has caught critics’ attention, who have likened the Portland musician to Chan Marshall, Bruce Springsteen, and Patty Griffin. In Pureka’s newest album, “The Longest Year,” each song has been paired down instrumentally due to the restrictions of recording during pandemic times in 2021. Yet the simplicity of the guitar, bass, and harmonies–all recorded by Pureka– harkens back to the singer songwriter’s early days of music making. Experience Chris Pureka live September 22nd at Arts at the Armory’s Spotlight Series.Over many years of touring on both sides of the Atlantic, Pureka has shared the stage with such diverse and esteemed artists as The Lumineers, Gregory Alan Isakov, The Cowboy Junkies, Haley Heynderickx, and Ani DiFranco. Their songs are highlighted on such television shows as Brothers and Sisters, Covert Affairs, Shameless, and the Sundance-featured indie film, The Royal Road. Along the way, Pureka has remained truly independent, selling nearly 50,000 albums through their own label, Sad Rabbit Records.Join us for an intimate concert at Arts at the Armory with Chris Pureka. Doors open at 7:00PM; the show starts at 8:00PM. The tour’s opener will be Kym Register (of Meltdown Rodeo)!
