This session provides an in-depth exploration of the unique risk factors for suicide and non-suicidal self-injury in neurodivergent individuals (with diagnoses like ADHD and autism), including emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, and communication difficulties. These factors make traditional treatment strategies ineffective and require specialized approaches to address them in the clinical setting. In addition to exploring the complex challenges of treating neurodivergent clients who engage in suicidal and self-injurious behaviors, this session will also focus on the impact of the individual's sensory needs and environmental factors (such as difficulties with educational or social settings) on assessment and treatment.Attendees will have the opportunity to analyze case studies and engage in interactive activities to develop strategies for addressing these challenges. Through this comprehensive approach, mental health clinicians will improve their ability to provide effective, strengths-based support and treatment for neurodivergent clients struggling with suicidal and self-injurious behaviors.Join us for this engaging and interactive session to enhance your clinical skills and gain valuable insights into supporting this unique population.Learning Objectives: <ul><li>Attendees will be able to explain the unique risk factors for suicidality and non-suicidal self-injury in neurodivergent individuals, including impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, difficulty with frustration tolerance, and comorbidities such as anxiety, depression, and trauma.</li><li>Attendees will be able to apply strategies to adapt assessment and treatment approaches to meet the unique sensory needs and profiles of neurodivergent clients and understand how environmental factors can impact the assessment and treatment of suicidality and self-injury in neurodivergent clients.</li><li>Attendees will be able to develop specific plans and strategies to integrate a strengths-based approach to suicidal ideation and treatment in the clinical setting for neurodivergent clients, through the analysis of case studies and interactive activities.</li></ul>Continuing Education Information:Participant attendance will be tracked through the Eventbrite ticket when they arrive; an evaluation and check for understanding will be provided at the completion of the training to verify that participants remained for the entire session. Certificates of completion will be emailed to participants by the end of business the day following the training.The State of Missouri requires that clinicians receive a minimum of two hours of training related to suicide during each renewal cycle for licensing. This training will fulfill that requirement.
