Sexual Self-Determination Certification ProgramThe Among FriendsSexual Self-Determination Certification Programis designed to build capacity for communities to respond to issues of sexual health and development in positive, proactive and person-centered ways, and to promote healthy sexuality and relationships for people with disabilities.The certification program provides participants with opportunities to:Learn about the basics of sexual health and developmentCommunicate with ease and professionalism about sexualityEncourage healthy sexual expressionsFeel confident when supporting people who are engaging in challenging sexual behaviorsProvide specialized support for sexual health and healthy relationships to people with intellectual and/or developmental diversityProgram Outline and DetailsThe Sexual Self-determination certification program is comprised of 3 tiers. Tier 1 can be taken as a stand-alone training to strengthen your skills, or as the first part of the whole program. Tiers 2 and 3 are optional, depending on your interests and goals.Tier 1: FOUNDATIONSTier 2: ADVOCACYTier 3: TRAIN-THE-TRAINER*CEU’s are available in multiple states! Ask us for more details!

Learn a broad set of tools to understand and support the sexual health, self-determination, and development of people you support. These tools are beneficial for anyone, and especially helpful for people who work with someone who experiences intellectual and/or developmental diversity.Over this highly interactive, three-day training participants will:<ul><li>Broaden their understanding of sexuality and how it impacts behavior </li><li>Identify healthy sexual behaviors; learn how to better respond to unhealthy, unsafe, and illegal behaviors</li><li>Recognize how trauma impacts sexuality and relationships</li><li>Utilize a framework for balancing risks, choice, and decision-making while supporting someone’s healthy sexual development</li><li>Use pro-active, preventative, and person-centered strategies in response to social-sexual issues</li></ul>

Understanding sexuality, puberty vs. adolescence, Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

Day 1 afternoon: UNIT 1 

Overview of trauma, trauma and sexuality, trauma therapies, overview of trauma-informed care

Day 2 morning: UNIT 2

Milestones in healthy sexual development, signs of serious sexual concerns, responding to sexual incidents, trauma-informed mandatory reporting

Day 2 afternoon: UNIT 3

Talking about sex with teams, duty of care vs. dignity of risk, supported decision-making
