New York Irish Center Presents: the Second Annual America-Ireland Youth Conference

The New York Irish Center, 1040 Jackson Avenue, in New York City, hosts the 2nd “America-Ireland Youth Conference” taking place Friday to Sun June 2, 3, and 4. The all-virtual trans-Atlantic event brings together policy makers, educators and students from Ireland and the US, who take part in panel discussions on urgent global topics moderated by internationally recognized policy experts.This year’s conference, subtitled “Creating Waves,” explores the following topics in sequence: DAY 1 JUNE 2Climate Change and Poverty: Who Foots the Bill? Mitchell Scholar, Class of 2024)According to New York Irish Center’s executive director George C. Heslin, “It seems axiomatic that American and Irish students can learn from each other because of their different backgrounds. But what is so powerful about the conference is that the circumstances in each of these countries around these specific topics are different and full of nuance… This means the process of coming up with solutions can be approached from many directions.”Last year’s panel moderators were Nisha Varia, formerly advocacy director of Human Rights Watch; Sarah Crowe, a communications consultant for multiple UN agencies, including UNICEF, and Claire Byrne an Irish Green Party politician and Dublin City Council Member.The conference’s media sponsor is www.irishcentral.com, which will live-stream the conference and provide coverage of the proceedings.Key support for this event comes from the Government of Ireland (through its Department of Foreign Affairs Emigrant Support Program) and The Northern Ireland Bureau.
