The Chicago Research Colloquium is an annual event that highlights exceptional undergraduate scholarship that focuses on Chicago and Chicagoland issues. Presentations are made by student finalists for the annual Chicago Studies Undergraduate Research Prize, which is awarded at the conclusion of the Colloquium. After the Colloquium, the presenters and their guests are welcome to join Chicago Studies for our annual City in a Garden Party, to be held in the courtyard outside 1155 E. 60th (weather permitting).Schedule of events:2:30 PM – Welcome, Deputy Dean of Research and Teaching Innovations Emily Osborn2:35 PM – “The Perplexing Middlemen: Private Employment Agencies in the Web of Lives of Seasonal Workers in Early Twentieth Century America” by Zhengying Tian (HIST), advised by Gabriel Winant3:00 PM – “The Woodlawn Organization and the Trauma Center Campaign: The University They Faced and the Terrains They Fought on from an Accumulation Perspective” by Warren Wagner (SOCI/CRES), advised by Gabriel Winant3:25 PM – “The Worker Center Movement”: Reimagining Organizing and Policy for Chicago’s Migrant Workers” by Sanjana Natesan (HMRT/PBPL), advised by Susan Gzesh3:50 PM – “Major ‘L’: How the Chicago Transit Authority Gentrified its Elevated Trains” by Micah Wilcox (ENST/SOCI), advised by Emily Talen4:15 PM – “A Tale of Two Rivers: Zoning Policy Conflict and the Production of Public Space on the Chicago River” by Isadora Kron (ENST/PBPL), advised by Neil Brenner4:45 PM – Concluding remarks and presentation of the Chicago Studies Research Prize, College Dean John W. Boyer5:00 PM – All Colloquium attendees are invited to join us for our "City in a Garden" party in the courtyard.
