Natural Solutions Tool - Basics Training

Friends of the Chicago River is the only organization solely dedicated to the Chicago River.Since 1979, Friends has been working to improve the health of the Chicago River system for the benefit of people, plants and animals; and by doing so, has laid the foundation for the river to be a beautiful, continuous, and easily accessible corridor of open space in the Chicago region.Friends’ work spans the entire 156-mile Chicago River system and its surrounding watershed. We focus on a greener river with healthy habitat, an accessible river that people can use and enjoy, and a river cared for by a broad group of supporters.

Join the Trust for Public Land and Friends of the Chicago River for a live demo/training of the Natural Solutions Tool.

During this training, staff from the Trust for Public Land and Friends of the Chicago River will teach attendees how to quickly and easily create detailed data reports summarizing climate, health, equity and biodiversity data for nearly any of the 1.5 million parcels in the 1,300 square mile Chicago watershed region. Attendees will also learn how to easily visualize at the regional, city, neighborhood, and parcel scale where the highest priority locations are for implementing nature-based solutions. There will be time reserved for a Q&amp;A.A project of the Greater Chicago Watershed Alliance, the free, publicly available Natural Solutions Tool was built from 84 searchable data layers centered on five modeling objectives that drive us towards healthy, equitable, biodiverse, protected, and connected landscapes and communities<a href="https://web.tplgis.org/chicago_nst/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Natural Solutions Tool </a>emerged from a vision for more strategic and collaborative watershed-wide investments in multi-beneficial nature-based solutions set by the <a href="https://www.chicagoriver.org/programs/public-policy-and-planning/greater-chicago-watershed-alliance" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Greater Chicago Watershed Alliance</a>, a coalition launched by Friends of the Chicago River in 2020. Tool development was led by The Trust for Public Land and Friends of the Chicago River with input from Watershed Alliance members and numerous other stakeholders.
