The Naturalist’s Sketchbook: A Springtime Adventure Series

I am a multi-disciplinary artist and community-based art planner, creatively engaging the public through original artworks and setting a powerful stage for multiple voices through art master plans. My work uses painting, drawing, sculpture and sound as means to explore the relationship between human perception and sense of place.The best education is one that is actively sought, not passively taken.  I view teaching as a collaborative venture between instructor and student based on mutual risk-taking and trust.  Art takes courage.My goal is to support aspiring artists of all ages through the process of developing the skills and self-confidence to reveal one’s true artistic vision.  I encourage students to deeply explore the linkage between creative expression, personal aesthetics, and lived experience.

Methow Valley

Join artist Perri Howard and naturalist David Lukas to explore the Methow Valley and learn how to sketch and journal what you see, feel, and experience when in nature.Whether you are relaxing in your backyard or out on a weekend hike, field journaling is an excellent way to engage your senses with the natural world. Come play outside with Perri and David, tap into the creative side of your brain, discover your inner naturalist, and learn to see, draw, and journal in a new way.How do I know if these classes are for me?- Do you get inspired by being outside?- Are you interested in becoming a more observant and engaged naturalist?- Do you get excited by exploring new approaches and techniques?- If you can’t draw, but you are willing to try, these classes are for you!Saturday, May 6th, 12 - 5 pmSaturday, May 13th, 12 - 5 pmSaturday, May 27th, 12 - 5 pmEach session will include a 2 hr field excursion in the Methow Valley, followed by 2 hrs. of studio time for writing, drawing, and reflecting upon all that we experienced in the field. Hike location will be sent out prior to each session. The studio portion will be held at Perri&#x27;s studio at TwispWorks. - All drawing materials will be provided including pencils, paper, and sketchbooks, but feel free to bring your own materials if you’d like.- Dress for the weather, bring a bottle of water, and whatever you enjoy having with you in the field (Binoculars? Bird/plant ID books? It is not possible to register for all three classes at once.Classes are $95 each. The class will be held outdoors and indoors. We will carpool from the studio in Twisp to the hike location for each class. The walks will be easy, not strenuous, with lots of moments to pause, look around, and enjoy our surroundings!These classes are designed for ages 16 and up. If you would like to bring a youngster under the age of 16, please call/email perri to make arrangements in advance.For assistance with registration, please contact Perri by email, phone, or text.perri@vmgworks.com 509-557-2299.Our Cancellation and Refund PolicyFull refunds will be given if the request is received two weeks or more before the day of the class. If the cancellation is made less than two weeks before the start of the program, we will give a full refund only if we can fill your spot. If you cancel 24 hours or less before the program&#x27;s start time or after the class has started there will be no refund of the program fee. Although we rarely need to do so, we reserve the right to cancel a program. In this case, you will receive a full refund.
