Fibershed is a non-profit educational and research organization that develops regenerative textile systems that are based on carbon farming, regional manufacturing, and public education.We envision the emergence of an international system of regional textile communities that enliven connection and ownership of ‘soil-to-soil’ textile processes. These diverse textile cultures are designed to build soil carbon stocks on the working landscapes on which they depend, while directly enhancing the strength of regional economies. Both fiber and food systems now face a drastically changing climate, and must utilize the best of time-honored knowledge and available science for their long-term ability to thrive.

Enter the world of yarn-making and learn how to use a drop spindle!

Fibershed Learning Center

Join us at the beautiful Fibershed Learning Center on Black Mountain Ranch near Point Reyes Station, CA, and learn how to make your own yarn using a drop spindle with Alisha Bright of Fiber Circle Studio.In this 4 hour class, students will get to practice making a single ply yarn, and learn how to take their yarn off the spindle, into a skein and prep for knitting, weaving or crocheting.This is a great entry and foundation building for learning to spin on a wheel! C﻿lass size: 10 studentsPlease bring: Personal snacks, lunch and beverages (a selection of teas will be served on site). W﻿e are in a rural location, so most people bring their lunch rather than drive to town.

Alisha Bright discovered knitting in her late teens during a time of hardship and in search for her identity as a young woman. The moment she embarked on her first project, she realized that this is what she was made for.She became involved with a few of the local yarn shops and wandered off to live on a farm for a few months where she learned about fiber processing, spinning, and self-sustainability. Upon her return to Sonoma County, she began the Master's Hand Knitting Program through TKGA, and resumed teaching knitting classes at her local yarn shop. Each contribution entitles you to choose one item of comparable value.You may depart up to an hour after the workshop ends, to allow time to browse and try on items in the closet, and make your trade!
