In this year’s collection of interactive oral history experiences, we invite you to travel with us as we explore oral history as a way to both create and to examine connections to place and to our history.

What does Asian American mean? What can Asian American oral history and art be? Collaging Asian/American: An Curation of Oral History and Archives is a curatorial, archival, and oral historical experiment in creating images of Asian American history from a student perspective. Here, collaging is an art practice that engages together the oral histories and archived materials of Asian American student life at Barnard College and Columbia University during the 1980s-90s. This will be a <a href="http://solbylim.sandbox.library.columbia.edu/asian-american-history-project/index" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">digital exhibit</a> available to the public in May 2023. This in-person, interactive collaging event is part of and a precursor to the digital exhibit. This experience invites visitors to collage as an artistic practice of exploring oral and archived histories of Asian American student life at Barnard/Columbia. Visitors will be invited to create their own assemblages of interview transcripts, art work, newspaper clippings, and more, all focused around discovering what Asian American looks like and can be. E﻿vent creator: Solby Lim 임솔비 is a storyteller, researcher, and current oral historian-in-training based out of New York. Solby graduated from Barnard College in 2022 with a degree in History and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, where she conducted her thesis on the internationalist politics of cultural production in North Korea and the US during the 1950-70s. Her current thesis project focuses on collecting an oral history of Asian American student life at Barnard/Columbia College.
